What in the World is Code Switching

Code switching is the way in which a member of an underrepresented group (consciously or unconsciously) adjusts their language, syntax, grammatical structure, behaviour, and appearance to fit into the dominant culture or professional settings.

This informative yet informal panel will explore the concept of code-switching and its various forms in everyday life, with a special focus on how it manifests in the workplace.

Through personal stories and expert insights, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the pressures people of colour, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others face when navigating these environments and how these adjustments impact their mental health, identity, and sense of belonging.

The session will encourage reflection on workplace inclusivity and provides guidance on creating environments where all employees feel they can bring their authentic selves to work.
